The Seasonal Mowing position will be employed from approximately April 15 to October 15 and work up to 40 hours a week. The start/end dates and the number of hours per week are subject to change depending on weather, seasonal conditions, and employee availability. Typical work week will be Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, and some weekend work may be required.
The Seasonal mowing position performs semi‑skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of park grounds and landscapes, which includes the operation of electrically‑powered and gasoline‑powered groundskeeping equipment and machines, and the use of small hand and power tools or equipment. The Seasonal mowing position also performs maintenance on groundskeeping equipment and tools, and makes minor repairs (within demonstrated capability) as directed.
All offers of employment are conditioned upon successfully passing a background check and drug screening.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.- Operates commercial size turf mowers to maintain park, turf, and right of way areas at desired level.
- Pick up trash and debris in assigned mowing areas.
- Uses power and manual shop tools to maintain vehicles and equipment as assigned.
- Keep work area and equipment clean.
- Performs other facility and site maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Employee is responsible for informing a supervisor of job related problems, damaged equipment, building damage, potential safety violations, and to keep the supervisor informed of current work assignment progress.
Requirements and Skills:
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers.
- Possess the basic understanding of safe mower and equipment operation.
- Proper and safe use and maintenance of any assigned City vehicle and equipment. Observes and practices safe work habits. Attends and maintains all department training and safety requirements to be legal, safe, and compliant with laws and regulations.
- Represents the department in a professional manner.
- Provides excellent customer service to all members of our community, inclusive of all races, genders, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, ages, national or ethnic origins, languages, citizenship status, socioeconomic status, and political affiliations. Ability to establish and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with city personnel and the general public; maintains professional demeanor, tone, and conversations in all public areas of the city.
Essential Functions:
- Minimum age requirement is 18 years.
- Ability to operate equipment in adverse weather conditions.
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate effectively.
- Sufficient personal mobility, strength and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to visit and/or work at various park sites throughout the City.
