The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. A Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver care. The RN assesses needs, plans, implements, and evaluates medical and nursing regimens in accordance with hospital philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards. Demonstrates leadership and professional accountability and growth.
Responsibilities- Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated.
- Documents care plans, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status.
- Ensures appropriate documentation for level of care, including transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.
- Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration. Communicates medication details to patient/family; assesses patient prior to administration, noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness, and intervening as needed. Reassesses and documents response per hospital policy.
- Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including delegation of tasks; maintains accountability for delegated care.
- Promotes a culture of safety: assesses safety risks, adheres to safety policies, initiates interventions, conducts bedside shift reports and rounds, documents nursing process, and ensures appropriate hand-off during breaks.
- Assesses learning needs of patient/family; plans and provides appropriate instruction; documents response to teaching.
- Cares for specific patient populations as necessary; delivers Patient Centered Care and embraces cultural diversity, maintains dignity, and open communication.
- Meets accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Supports a culture of learning and growth: seeks learning experiences, mentors others, and develops clinical and professional skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice.
Education:
Associate's degree in nursing (ADN). Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals). New graduates awaiting licensure may be considered at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer (CT only). American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification preferred (based on certification specialty and hours of work requirement). Credentials: ACLS, BLS, RN.
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity. Occupational risk: some. Physical effort: medium to heavy; may exert up to 35 lbs. Physical environment: exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
