Summary
The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. The RN collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members to deliver healthcare services. The RN assesses patient needs, implements and evaluates care plans, and demonstrates leadership skills and a commitment to professional accountability and growth.
Responsibilities- Documents detailed information, incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status.
- Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care, including transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.
- Maintains accountability for care delegated.
- Assesses patients for potential safety risks.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety and initiates interventions related to identified risk factors.
- Conducts bedside shift report and bedside rounds with a peer on assigned patients at change of shift.
- Demonstrates quality by documenting the application of the nursing process in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner.
- Ensures patient hand‑off as appropriate when leaving for breaks.
- Embraces cultural diversity and differences of patients and team members.
- Respects the dignity of all individuals through the maintenance of a caring relationship.
- Maintains open lines of communication, actively listening.
- Seeks experiences and formal and independent learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
- Mentors others to succeed.
Associate’s Level Graduate (DGRE)
Other Information- Current and unobstructed New York State Registered Nurse (NY Hospitals)
- Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals)
- New graduates awaiting licensure at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer (CT only)
- American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical‑Surgical Nurses Certification preferred (based on specialty hours of work requirement)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required upon hire
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required by end of orientation, required on specific units (ICU, ED, etc.)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Required by end of orientation, required in ED, PACU, and pediatric units
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Required by end of orientation for NICU/MCH/LDRP/DR units
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – Required within 1 year of hire for selected units
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – Required within 1 year of hire, special emphasis on ED and ICU
- Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) – Required within 1 year of hire for ED RN
- Transcarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) – Required within 1 year of hire for selected ICUs
- Additional specialty training (CPI, S.T.A.B.L.E, Chemotherapy Certification) – Required within specific time frames (6–12 months post‑hire)
Manual: significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity required.
Occupational: some occupational risk.
Physical Effort: medium to heavy effort, may exert up to 35 lbs. force.
Physical Environment: exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
Credentials: ACLS, ENPC, PALS, RN, TNCC.
