High Voltage (HV) Power Engineer – Fuel Cell Data Centre Integration Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced High Voltage (HV) Power Engineer to support the deployment of fuel cell systems within data centre environments. The role focuses on the design, integration, commissioning, and maintenance of high voltage electrical systems that connect fuel cells to existing facility power infrastructure.

The position requires experience in HV systems, critical facility power environments, and distributed energy integration.

• Design and integrate fuel cell systems into existing MV/HV data centre electrical infrastructure.
• Ensure compatibility with UPS systems, backup generators, and grid connections.
• Perform commissioning and testing of electrical interfaces related to fuel cell deployment.

• Design, operate, and maintain HV/MV systems including transformers, switch gear, circuit breakers, protective relays, and distribution networks.
• Conduct load flow, short-circuit, and fault studies incorporating distributed generation sources.
• Develop single-line diagrams, protection schemes, and grounding plans.

• Use electrical modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, PSSE, or similar) for system analysis and protection coordination.
• Evaluate power quality, redundancy, and reliability impacts when integrating fuel cells into critical loads.
• Work with R&D, manufacturing, and operations teams to support system deployment and performance optimization.
• Ensure compliance with applicable electrical standards (IEEE, NEC, NFPA, IEC).
• Support commissioning activities, troubleshooting, and field testing alongside internal teams and contractors.
• Maintain documentation related to HV/MV systems and fuel cell integration projects.
• Contribute to development of repeatable design standards and deployment workflows.

• Provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
• Participate in design reviews and system optimization initiatives related to distributed energy and critical power.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or in progress.
• 5–10 years of experience in high voltage electrical engineering, ideally in data centres, industrial facilities, or distributed generation projects.
• Knowledge of HV/MV systems, protective relays, transformers, switch gear, UPS systems, and backup generators.
• Experience with electrical design and modeling tools such as ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, PSSE, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with distributed generation, fuel cells, or energy storage systems is beneficial.
• Strong analytical and project coordination skills.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and fast-paced environments.

• Experience integrating fuel cells or renewable energy systems.
• Field experience in commissioning and troubleshooting HV systems.
• Knowledge of SCADA, monitoring, and control systems.
• Structured, detail-oriented approach with effective communication skills.
