Position Definition
Responsible for planning, budgeting, goal-setting, scheduling and supervising a team of full-time and part-time librarians and library assistants. Championing equitable access to resources, lifelong learning and information literacy, the Library Adult Services Manager also oversees programming, ordering, collection development, outreach, reference and reader’s advisory services. This position remains abreast of trends and innovations in adult library services. This position also requires some public desk time and a flexible schedule that includes working some evenings and weekends.
GeneralDuties
- Promote the library’s mission, vision, and strategic direction, making the library a more inclusive and welcoming place for all people through its programs, services, and collections.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with vendors, community partners, and local colleges.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data to produce statistical reports on library visits, programs, and services in order to improve operations and service delivery.
- Prepare and maintain monthly reports based on activities, operations, and statistical outcomes.
- Monitor technological, societal, and local trends affecting library services and develop and implement new programs and service models accordingly.
- Promote main library collections, technology, programs, and services through presentations, programs, and topical displays.
- Coordinate and prepare bibliographies, booklists, and Lib Guides.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of full-time and part-time staff members and volunteers.
- Coordinate the book ordering process and fulfill item requests.
- Ensure the maintenance of collections through regular examination and weeding using Library HQ.
- Work closely with the Library Director on branding, marketing initiatives, newsletters, and social media content.
- Examine professional publications and other sources for the selection of books, periodicals, and other library materials.
- Attend meetings and participate in professional library organizations.
- Operate computer terminals and library systems for issuing, receiving, and locating books and materials.
- Perform duties in other library divisions as needed.
Receives general supervision from Library Director.
- Ability to follow and enforce library policies and procedures
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to prioritize assigned duties and reporting accomplished tasks to supervisor
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully with a diverse population
- Strong planning, time management, organizational skills
- Knowledgeable of resource sharing software and productivity tools.
- Experience with III’s Vega ILS and Pharos Print Management Solution
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs
- Proficiency with virtual meeting tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Maintains confidentiality of library users’ records and prioritizes this with staff
- Remain current with emerging library programs, databases and software
Leadership and Competencies
- Master’s degree in Library Science
- Three years of progressively responsible public library experience, including one year as supervisor of a Library division
- Master’s degree in Library Science
