The Cardiovascular Intervention Center is a core element of the Smidt Heart Institute, performing more than 8,000 procedures a year. The department serves the populations of neonates to and including geriatrics. In this twelve‑laboratory facility we perform a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for coronary artery disease, heart muscle function and heart valve dysfunction.

• Assume responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and delivery of patient care.
• Work in a fast‑paced environment in Cardiac Catheterization procedure rooms.
• Cross‑train to circulate, monitor, scrub for invasive procedures for patients from neonate to geriatric.
• Provide care of cardiac patients from admission to discharge, including prolonged hours in a procedure setting with x‑ray exposure.
• Provide on‑call coverage for emergency procedures evenings, nights, weekends with an expected 30‑minute maximum response/arrival time.
• Respond to on‑call emergencies approximately nine (9) times during every six‑week period, staying in a local hotel when residing beyond 30 minutes from the facility.

The schedule comprises three 12‑hour shifts (four of the 12 weeks are 4‑day weeks to make a 1.0 FTE) with on‑call nights and weekends as described above.

• BSN strongly preferred.

• Valid California RN License required.
• BLS and ACSL required.
• CCRN, CVRN, or RCIS preferred. Candidates must commit to obtaining a specialty certification within one year of hire to maintain CN III status.

• Minimum 3 years of Acute Care Nursing experience required.
• Minimum 1 year of Critical Care experience strongly recommended.
• Special Procedures/Cardiac Cath Lab/EP experience preferred in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions with all patient populations for CN II or III qualification.
• Minimum 2 years of appropriate Cath Lab/EP experience required for CN III qualification; otherwise considered CN II.
• Meets clinical criteria and protocol for Clinical Nurse III (minimum 3–5 years RN experience);
  Critical Care or Emergency Department strongly recommended.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, transport patients and equipment, gurneys, pull and transfer patients from bed to procedure table.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods wearing lead aprons weighing 15–20 lbs.
• Ability to be on‑call for nights and weekends approximately nine (9) times during every six‑week period.
