Job Description and Duties

Metropolitan State Hospital is located in the City of Norwalk.

DSH-Metropolitan is accepting Employment Applications (STD-678 form) for those who are interested in a Permanent/Fulltime Psychiatric Technician (Safety) position on our Clinical Services Department's Grounds Presence Team.

Under the direction of the Assistant Clinical Administrator, the Psychiatric Technician (PT) on the Grounds Presence Team, is supervised by the Nursing Coordinator. The PT provides supervision of patients in various contexts and promotes a safe and secure environment that supports therapeutic and rehabilitative treatment of patients served. The PT performs duties and responsibilities that require the ability to work independently and high level of initiation with sound clinical judgement and to respond to situations appropriately and effectively.

The PT is alert to safety and security with regards to patient care, visitors, and the environment. The PT has a teamwork based mentality and performs well in group settings. The PT demonstrates commitment and accountability to attendance.

Candidates must be willing to work in any Unit/Program and any Shift to meet the needs of the facility.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the BVNPTE. (Applicants who are within four months of completing the Psychiatric Technician curriculum accredited by the BVNPTE will be admitted to the examination, but they must secure this license before they will be eligible for appointment.)
