The History Department at Cerritos College invites applications for a 10‑month tenure‑track contract position. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate history courses in a variety of areas, including United States history, Black/African American history, Mexican and Latino American history, global studies, and more.
Responsibilities- Maintain currency in the discipline and best teaching practices.
- Check mailbox, voicemail, and e‑mail regularly.
- Complete the checkout form before leaving campus at the end of each academic term.
- Maintain student confidentiality per regulations.
- Participate in committee work, student activities, and shared governance.
- Attend staff development workshops, department and division meetings, and commencement ceremonies.
- Assist the Department Chairperson and Instructional Dean in unit planning, budgeting, and inventory.
- Develop and implement a “Flex Plan” as required.
- Post and maintain at least three scheduled office hours per week on distinct days.
- Teach all assigned classes and deliver all scheduled instructional time.
- Notify the Instructional Dean or designee of any class absence and arrange substitutes.
- Prepare and submit syllabi, enrollment, attendance, and academic progress records.
- Prepare and submit end‑of‑session grades, attendance reports, and related documentation.
- Provide access to textbooks, ensuring they are free-to-student, accessible to students with disabilities, and meet electronic material requirements.
- Conduct final examinations and maintain examination records for at least one year.
- Maintain a safe learning environment in classrooms and instructional spaces.
- Allow instructional managers or the Instructional Dean to review assignments upon request.
- Master’s degree in history, or bachelor’s in history plus a master’s in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women’s studies, social science, or ethnic studies (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population.
- Training and experience in teaching world history.
- Training and experience in teaching Latin American history.
- Experience teaching first- and second-year college students from diverse backgrounds.
- Interest in teaching dual‑enrollment students at local high schools.
- Certification in online teaching (e.g., @ONE Online Teaching & Design Certificate).
Salary commensurate with education and experience; benefits include medical/dental/vision coverage, life insurance ($50,000), and participation in the State Teachers’ Retirement System. The position is a 10‑month tenure‑track contract beginning fall 2026.
Physical DemandsRequires ambulatory ability and ability to operate classroom equipment, including a computer. Capability to lift or move objects of medium weight (
30 lbs
) on an occasional basis.

- Fingerprint clearance, TB test, California residency proof, and other background checks required before employment.
