general function

the camp specialist for arts, garden, archery, sports & ropes plays a pivotal role in providing engaging and enriching experiences for campers within these specialized areas. They are responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating activities related to arts and crafts, gardening, and archery. The specialist fosters a supportive and inclusive environment where campers can explore their interests, develop new skills, and build lasting memories.

  • develop and implement age-appropriate arts and crafts projects that foster creativity and self-expression.
  • maintain and oversee the camp's garden area, including planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting, while educating campers about gardening techniques and sustainability.
  • instruct campers in the fundamentals of archery, emphasizing safety procedures, proper technique, and sportsmanship.
  • organize and lead group activities and games related to arts, gardening, and archery, ensuring all participants are engaged and involved.
  • create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where campers of all skill levels feel encouraged to participate and learn.
  • supervise campers during activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • collaborate with other camp staff to integrate arts, gardening, sports, ropes and archery activities into the overall camp program.
  • communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members, providing updates and feedback as needed.
  • qualifications
    • previous experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting preferred.
    • proficiency in arts and crafts techniques, gardening principles, and archery instruction.
    • strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with campers, parents, and colleagues.
    • cpr and first aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
    • knowledge of safety protocols and best practices related to arts, gardening, and archery activities.
    • enthusiasm for outdoor education and a commitment to creating a positive camp experience for all participants.
    work environment and physical demands

    the camp specialist will primarily work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, rain, or sunshine. They will interact with campers, fellow staff members, and occasionally parents or guardians. The work environment may include exposure to natural elements such as plants, soil, and insects.

    • ability to stand, walk, and move around the campsite for extended periods.
    • capability to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
    • agility and dexterity necessary for demonstrating arts and crafts techniques, gardening tasks, and archery instruction.
    • stamina and endurance to participate in outdoor activities and games alongside campers.
    • flexibility to adapt to the dynamic and fast-paced nature of camp life.
