The Senior Project Manager leads the planning, design, and execution of complex facilities and capital projects, ensuring alignment with institutional standards, budgets, and long‑range campus goals. Serves as the owner’s representative, coordinates across departments and external partners to deliver high‑quality projects that support the university’s mission and strategic vision. Provides strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple projects from concept through completion.
This position will work on projects on all WashU campuses.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee multiple small to large and complex facilities and/or capital projects from initiation to completion in alignment with the department’s project delivery process. Includes planning, design, and construction projects on and off campus, focusing on quality, budget, and schedule.
- Develop and lead processes, create meeting content when needed. Facilitate and participate in planning and project meetings with campus partners, including BJH, SLCH, BJC, etc., to ensure seamless integration and construction across campuses.
- Evaluate the appropriateness of specific project requirements and recommend cost‑effective solutions. Provide owners’ review of projects with understanding of architectural components, building systems, and construction methods.
- Establish and monitor project activity, budgets, and schedules. Include owners’ directions, change orders, signage, move management, and activation.
- Consult with departments to qualify and quantify specific program, project, and facility requirements. Advise and consult as space becomes activated and operationalized.
- As the owner’s representative, provide oversight and coordinate planning, design, and construction‑related activities. Communicate with stakeholders regularly, and ensure escalations are properly identified, addressed, and distributed to the group at large.
- Maintain compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations, review engineering and architectural drawings and specifications. Assist in developing, maintaining, and enforcing WashU Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, Design, and Construction guidelines and standards.
- Understand the business need for each project and make ongoing decisions based on what’s best for the organization, even if it means challenging stakeholders on critical success factors.
