Purpose:The Transportation Planner is responsible for ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and timely movement of inbound raw materials and outbound finished packaged goods to meet customer demand and service expectations. This role oversees daily transportation planning and execution, supports high-volume distribution across multiple channels, and partners closely with production, warehousing, and customer service to maintain product flow and on-time delivery. By developing strong carrier relationships, leveraging systems such as SAP Transportation Management, and driving continuous improvement initiatives, the Transportation Planner optimizes freight performance, minimizes costs, and supports the fast-paced, service-driven environment of the packaged goods business.
Duties,Tasks, and Responsibilities:
- Ensure on‑time and accurate transportation planning for all outbound and inbound package movements
- Develop and sustain carrier relationships
- Provide daily management of transportation operations
- Evaluate and implement continuous improvement on freight service and freight cost
- Develop operational metrics and report on freight costs
- Become the key point of contact for SAP‑TM responsibilities
- Coordinate with production planning, sales, customer service and terminals to achieve on‑time service results
- Review new carriers and rate competitiveness
- Duties as assigned by Supervisor
- A minimum of 2 years Transportation experience focusing on carrier sourcing or operations
- Industry experience preferred:
Automotive, Retail, Carrier, or 3PL. - Experience in LTL, TL, and Intermodal carriers desired
- Proficient in MS-Office and SAP
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem solve and identify trends
- High degree of integrity
- Knowledge of transportation laws, freight tariffs, and distribution methods
- Self-motivated. Works well under pressure, and a sense of urgency
- Must be able to thrive in a fast-pace environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, or Supply Chain or equivalent qualified experience
