Experience Level: Senior Setup Machinist (5+ years CNC experience)

Why This Role Exists

Hu Friedy Group  is expanding its high-mix, low-volume precision machining capability to support world-class dental and medical instruments. This role exists to strengthen 4-axis machining capability, reduce setup redundancy, and support complex multi-face parts with tight quality requirements.

This is a true setup role - not an operator position - with real ownership over machine accuracy, repeatability, and process improvement.

The Work You'll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Independently set up HAAS 3-axis and 4-axis CNC milling machines
  • Install, indicate, and align 4-axis rotary tables (A-axis), tail stocks, and tombstones
  • Load, verify, edit, and prove out CNC programs using indexed and continuous 4-axis motion
  • Establish and verify work offsets (G54-G59), rotary offsets, and tool length offsets
  • Perform first-article inspections on multi-face components and adjust offsets/programs in real time
  • Troubleshoot advanced 4-axis issues including:
    • Angular misalignment
    • Rotary zero-return errors
    • Positional repeatability problems
    • Tool clearance and collision risk
  • Optimize machining strategies to reduce multiple setups through effective 4-axis indexing
  • Support frequent changeovers in a high-mix, low-volume environment
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on fixture design, tooling, and program improvements
  • Train and support CNC Operators on safe operation and 4-axis best practices

Machines, Controls & Software

You'll work hands-on with:

  • Machines: HAAS CNC milling machines (3-axis & 4-axis)
  • Rotary Systems: HAAS TRT / HRT rotary tables, tombstones, multi-face fixturing
  • Controls: HAAS CNC controls
  • Programming: G-code editing at the machine (A-axis logic, indexing, safe starts)
  • Inspection Tools: Calipers, micrometers, indicators, precision gages

Materials You'll Work With

  • Stainless steel
  • Specialty alloys used in dental and medical instruments

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience with significant setup responsibility
  • Hands-on experience setting up 4-axis HAAS milling machines (required)
  • Experience with:
    • Rotary tables (TRT / HRT or equivalent)
    • Tombstone and multi-face fixturing
    • Complex part orientation and datum control
  • Strong blueprint reading skills, including advanced GD&T (position, profile, concentricity, runout)
  • Proficiency editing G-code, including:
    • A-axis commands
    • Indexing logic
    • Program prove-out and safe start procedures
  • Strong understanding of precision measurement for multi-axis components

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Medical or dental manufacturing experience
  • Exposure to continuous improvement or process optimization work

Why Machinists Like Working Here

  • True setup ownership - not just loading parts
  • Advanced 4-axis work in a clean, regulated environment
  • High-mix, technical machining (no boring long-run production)
  • Stable, long-term work in medical manufacturing
  • Strong pay, shift differentials, and sign-on bonus
  • Opportunity to influence fixtures, processes, and machining strategy

Pay, Benefits & Schedule

Pay Range: $25 - $36/hr (DOE)
Sign-On Bonus: $2,500

Benefits Include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid company holidays

Shifts:

  • 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift available
  • Shift differentials apply as listed
  • Overtime as needed
