The Northbrook Police Department is seeking qualified, team-oriented individuals with strong problem-solving skills to join our dedicated force. As a Northbrook Police Officer, you will serve a dynamic community that blends residential, commercial, and business areas. Our community is anchored by major shopping centers like Northbrook Court, Willow Festival, and Village Square, along with several smaller centers. Northbrook also serves as the corporate home to prominent companies like Crate and Barrel and is a transportation hub with both the Edens Expressway and Tri-State Tollway passing through the village.

The downtown Metra station connects commuters to Chicago and beyond.

Range of Position

  • Merit A Scale: $82,469 - $122,483
  • Merit B Scale: $77,679 - $115,979

Hiring Range: $95,685 - $101,686, based on continuous years of service and experience. Upon completion of the 18 month probationary period, Lateral Officers are eligible to move from Merit B scale to Merit A scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol: Conduct routine patrols of the village to ensure the safety and security of residents, businesses, and visitors.
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergencies, accidents, and criminal incidents in accordance with law enforcement protocols.
  • Investigations: Investigate and document criminal activities, working closely with other officers and community members to solve cases.
  • Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with residents and local organizations to build trust and enhance community policing efforts.
  • Enforcement: Enforce local laws, traffic regulations, and ordinances in a fair and unbiased manner.
  • Report Writing: Prepare detailed reports, including incident reports and arrest documentation, to ensure accurate records.
  • Collaboration: Work in partnership with local agencies and government departments to address the needs of the community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education/ Military
    • Must have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited university or junior college, or
    • has served 24 days of honorable active duty with the United States Armed Forces with honorable discharge, or
    • has served 180 days active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty with honorable discharge.
  • Must be a citizen of, or a lawful non-citizen resident permitted to legally work in, the United States with the ability to speak and understand the English language sufficiently to discharge the duties of police officer.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • POWER test card issued/ dated within twelve (12) months of application or offer. POWER card must be obtained by time of offer of employment.
  • Must be able to supply proof of successfully completing the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course.
  • Must have been a full-time police officer for 24 months in another law enforcement agency.
  • Must be of good moral character, of temperate habits and of sound health, and must be physically able to perform the essential job functions of the position of police officer.
