Position Summary:
The Director of HRIS is responsible for the strategic leadership, implementation, and ongoing ownership of the organization’s Human Resources Information Systems. This role oversees payroll configuration and end-to-end HR system configuration, ensuring system integrity, compliance, scalability, and an optimal user experience. The Director of HRIS partners closely with HR, Payroll, Finance, IT, and business leaders to align HR technology with organizational goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the system owner for UKG, providing strategic direction, governance, and oversight across all HR and payroll modules.
- Lead the design, configuration, implementation, and optimization of HR and payroll systems to support business needs.
- Establish HRIS governance, standards, documentation, and change management processes.
HR Systems Configuration & Administration
- Own the setup and maintenance of core HR modules including employee data, benefits, timekeeping, performance, and reporting.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Manage integrations with third-party vendors and internal systems.
Implementation & Optimization
- Lead system implementations, upgrades, and enhancements, including requirements gathering, testing, and deployment.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline HR and payroll processes through technology.
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements.
Reporting, Analytics & Compliance
- Oversee HR and payroll reporting, dashboards, and analytics to support business decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and audit requirements related to HR and payroll data.
- Support internal and external audits as needed.
Payroll Oversight
- Oversee payroll system configuration, processing support, audits, and compliance within UKG as the system owner and data steward for UKG and related HR technologies.
- Partner with Payroll and Finance to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations from a systems, controls and reporting perspective.
- Manage accuracy and compliance of payroll-related system testing, updates, and year-end activities through system design.
- Provide strategic oversight and partnership with UKG system and payroll stakeholders to ensure UKG Customer Billing (PEO) reporting is accurately configured, validated, and optimized across pay cycles.
Stakeholder Partnership & Leadership
- Act as a trusted advisor to HR, Payroll, Finance, IT, and business leaders on HR technology solutions.
- Lead and develop HRIS team members and/or manage external vendors and consultants.
- Provide training and support to system users to drive adoption and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop training materials and SOPs for General Managers, Department Heads regarding best practices and system usage.
- Lead internal payroll audits (401k, Workers’ Compensation) and maintain full records and documentation.
- Ability to maintain composure and solve problems quickly during payroll critical payroll process windows.
- Ability to translate complex tax and system concepts into clear instructions.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field.
- 8+ years of progressive HRIS experience, including leadership responsibility.
- Deep experience with UKG, including payroll and core HR configuration.
- Strong knowledge of UKG Payroll Processing, Workforce Management, Core HR/Payroll Management, and Reporting & Analytics.
- Strong knowledge of payroll processes, HR compliance, and system integrations.
- Proven experience leading HR system implementations and managing complex projects.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., HRIS, PMP, SHRM, or UKG certifications).
- Experience supporting multi-state payroll environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
