This position is for the  School Year.

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaches science, utilizing courses of study adopted by the school, and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Provides instruction that meets the Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares report cards.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program.
  • Provides accommodations and modifications to classroom instruction and assignments in alignment with a student's ISP/504. Cooperates with staff members to assess, support and monitor student behavioral and academic challenges.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service and professional growth activities.
  • Collaborates with grade‑level colleagues about curriculum and educational programming.
  • Supervises students in and out‑of‑classroom activities during the school day.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to best practice in all dimensions of effective teaching and professionalism as defined by the Thoughtful Classroom framework, including:
    Organization, rules and routines; positive relationships; engagement and enjoyment; a culture of thinking and learning; preparing students for new learning; presenting new learning; deepening and reinforcing learning; applying learning; and reflecting on and celebrating learning.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or a related subject from an accredited university
  • Illinois teaching certificate
  • At least two years of experience is preferred. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
