Under the direction of an appropriate licensed clinician, the Medical Assistant I (MA I) provides clinical care and performs clerical duties to support office and clinic functions. The employee receives workplace education and training to assist providers and the healthcare team in the care of patients.
Exemption Status: Non‑Exempt
Hiring Range: $16.31 – $30.82 (final offer may vary based on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations).

Escorts patients to examination rooms, takes and records vital signs such as blood pressures, temperatures, height, weight, etc.; collects and documents patient health status; reviews laboratory results and ensures abnormal results are immediately brought to the attention of physicians. Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, Point of Care (POC) tests, and administers non‑intravenwoning injections as directed. Assists in routine physical examinations or clinical procedures.
Provides clear communication to licensed clinicians regarding observations. Sets up and prepares rooms based on patient care requirements. Assists in the setup, maintenance, disassembly, and cleaning of patient equipment. Ensures instruments and scopes are cleaned, sterilized, and repackaged per protocol. Operates sterilization/cleaning systems. Assists in moving, lifting, positioningصیلات می، and transporting patients followingulk standards. Utilizes proper safety techniques and body mechanics.
Follows procedures for arriving patients and scheduling appointments. Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures. Maintains assigned offices and/or clinical supplies; initiates requisitions for supplies; maintains logs. May enter data or retrieve information from the electronic medical record. Processes prescription and refills as directed. Performs clerical duties such as typing, filing, scheduling appointments, generating letters, handling phone calls, and collaborating with insurers for coverage verification and pre‑authorizations.
Collects co‑payments 更新 from patients and maintains records.
License/Certification/Education – Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association – if not obtained upon hire, must be obtained within 3 months; failure to obtain may result in termination.
- Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (ARMA, NHA, etc.) – must be obtained within 1 year; failure to obtain may result in termination.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
Physical Demands and Environmental ConditionsPosition requires work indoors in a patient‑care office or clinic environment. Hand dexterity, hearing and vision are needed to follow direction from a patient or provider and adjust equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Work is of medium demand, standing and walking most of the time with the possibility of pushing heavy equipment and bending frequently.
