Nordic Minesteel Technologies (NMT) is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Production Planner to join our team. This role is critical to ensuring efficient production flow, on-time delivery, and optimal use of labour, equipment, and materials within our metal fabrication operations. The Production Planner serves as a key link between Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, and the shop floor, translating customer demand into clear, executable production plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize detailed production schedules for fabrication, welding, machining, and finishing operations.
  • Sequence work orders based on priority, capacity, material availability, and customer delivery commitments.
  • Adjust schedules in response to engineering changes, material delays, equipment downtime, or labour constraints.
  • Monitor schedule performance and proactively address risks to on-time delivery.
  • Ensure production jobs are accurately set up in the ERP system using approved sales orders, engineering drawings, and documentation prior to release to the shop floor.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Project Management to understand customer requirements, priorities, and delivery timelines.
  • Work closely with Engineering to confirm drawings and transmittals are accurate and released on time.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and Materials Management to ensure raw materials and subcontracted services are available as scheduled.
  • Clearly communicate production plans, updates, and changes to supervisors and shop floor teams.
  • Analyze labour and machine capacity to support short- and long-term production requirements.
  • Identify bottlenecks and recommend schedule adjustments or process improvements.
  • Support workforce planning by highlighting capacity constraints and peak demand periods.
  • Maintain ERP data integrity, including accurate job setup, document control, and revisions throughout the production lifecycle.
  • Track and report key performance indicators such as on-time delivery, schedule adherence, and work-in-process.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning accuracy, lead times, and workflow efficiency.
  • Support quality initiatives and audits by ensuring controlled and accurate production documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in production planning or scheduling within a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.
  • Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Production Planning, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Solid understanding of metal fabrication processes, including welding, cutting, blasting, and finishing.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems; strong Excel and data analysis skills.
