Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineering
We are seeking an experienced Purchaser to support our metal fabrication operations. This role is responsible for the day-to-day procurement of materials, hardware, and subcontracted services required to meet production and project schedules. The Purchaser works closely with Engineering, Production, Sales, Quality Assurance, and external suppliers to ensure materials are ordered accurately, delivered on time, and aligned with technical and quality requirements.
This position is ideal for a purchasing professional with manufacturing experience who enjoys a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment and hands-on collaboration across departments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Review parts and assemblies identified as ready-to-order within the ERP/MRP system
- Interpret engineering drawings, bills of material, nesting layouts, and specifications to determine purchasing requirements
- Calculate and verify material requirements for projects, including material to be cut, staged, or nested on the flame table, ensuring efficient use of full plate and stock sizes
- Issue purchase orders for raw materials, hardware, components, and outsourced operations (e.g., machining, coating, galvanizing)
- Confirm pricing, lead times, quantities, and delivery requirements with suppliers
- Expedite purchase orders to support production schedules and respond to changing priorities
- Communicate order status, delays, and risks to Production, Engineering, Sales, and Project Teams
- Coordinate with Engineering to resolve drawing questions or revisions prior to ordering
- Arrange return material authorizations (RMAs) and support non-conformance reporting for supplier issues
- Support Quality Assurance with supplier maintenance, vendor evaluations, and compliance activities
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation within the ERP system
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to material utilization, lead times, and supplier performance
- Demonstrated experience in purchasing, supply chain, or a manufacturing environment is required
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication and engineering drawings
- Working knowledge of metals, materials, and industrial hardware
- Experience purchasing material for cutting or nesting operations is an asset
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (Epicor experience considered an asset)
- Strong organizational, follow-up, and time-management skills
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
- Support supplier compliance with ISO 9001 requirements and applicable regulatory obligations
- Assist with vendor evaluations and supplier performance monitoring
- Support ethical sourcing and compliance with Canada’s Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act
- Participate in corrective action and supplier non-conformance processes as require
- Hands-on involvement in complex fabrication projects
