NBRHC’s Seniors’ Mental Health Integrated Service (SMHIS) works collaboratively with the Behavioural Supports Ontario Integrated Response Team and key stakeholders to promote mental wellness, independence, optimize care transitions and overall quality of life for the individual and their care partner(s). The successful Seniors’ Mental Health RN will work within a compassionate person‑focused philosophy aligned with best practice principles and frameworks such as those guided by the Canadian Coalition for Seniors’ Mental Health;

P.I.E.C.E.S.;
Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) in Dementia Care;
Dementi Ability Methods;
Recovery Philosophy and in accordance with respective standards of clinical Nipissing Specialized Geriatric Services and NE BSO, the successful incumbent will demonstrate a commitment to the organization’s values and ensure the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, visitors and self, as well as promote an inclusive culture of safety that meets the diverse needs of this unique population.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of a recognized

    B.Sc.N Program required
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing required
  • Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse, Canada (CPMHNC) preferred
  • Gerontology certificate/diploma/degree preferred
  • Certification and applied knowledge in the following fundamental core competencies: GPA, PIECES, Dementi Ability, CAGP Geriatric Psychiatry Certificate and BSO Foundations required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical geriatric mental health nursing experience required
  • Experience with applying Comprehensive Geriatric Health Assessment framework and implementing multifaceted treatment plans required
  • Enhanced knowledge of emerging and best practices pertaining to pharmacology in older adults (particularly psychotropic medications), in addition to relevant evidence‑based therapeutic modalities required
  • Certification in Lean and/or relevant quality improvement skills preferred
Skills/Abilities
  • Demonstrated clinical competence, leadership and applied inter‑collaborative skills to promote, facilitate and integrate comprehensive best practice principles including medical, mental health, and behavioural health required
  • Demonstrated competence in cultural safety and trauma‑informed care with a specialized focus on the needs of older adults and their care partners required
  • Demonstrated competencies in mentorship to support teams across varied disciplines with enhanced knowledge and practices required
  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, communication (written & verbal) with consideration of the intended audience and targeted documentation requirements
  • Knowledge of consent and capacity matters and legislation involving this population (e.g. Public Guardian Trustee, Substitute Decision Maker Act, Health Care Consent Act; Mental Health Act; Long‑term Care Act; PHIPA) required
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to work in a flexible and self‑directed manner required
  • Good attendance and work record required
  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure personal safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors by contributing to a culture of health and safety required
  • Recent Criminal Reference check (within two months for external candidates) required
  • Valid G driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle required
  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level
