Canadian Shield Health Care Services is in search of outgoing, kind and ambitious addictions workers to provide clients in our service areas, with a superior level of care!

Applicants will have the opportunity to gain work experience in home care with no limited experience required! If you are new or newly returning to the health care field and are unsure of where to start, do not fear! You will have the opportunity to receive valuable training from the company’s highly qualified team who will provide guidance and mentorship! Job Types: Full-Time, Part-Time, Casual

Salary: $24 to $26 per hour

Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in the relevant discipline
  • Minimum 1-year experience but new graduates are welcome to apply
  • Registration with a governing/regulatory body considered an asset.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary team
Requirements
  • Current CPR and First Aid required; GAIN Q3 MI ONT Certification preferred.
  • Counselling

    Skills:

    Strong evidence-based, trauma-informed counselling skills essential.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Proficiency in prevalent languages in northern Ontario considered an asset.
  • Transportation:
    Valid Ontario Driver’s License, insurance, and reliable vehicle required.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive standardized addiction assessments, including conducting risk and psychosocial assessments
  • Provide individual, short-term counselling and case management supports to help support a client’s achievement of their recovery goals.
  • Regularly assess for risk and respond with mitigation strategies, including crisis intervention and de-escalation supports and connecting to crisis services when appropriate.
  • Refer and link clients to community resources and groups that support recovery goals, including treatment services as appropriate.
  • Provide education on substance use and wellness to clients and their families/other supports.
  • Facilitate recovery and/or social-recreational groups as needed, including developing new group materials.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, team huddles, supervisions, case conferences, trainings, and events as required.
  • Update all appropriate documentation within 24 hours of client contact
  • Participate in internal or external committees, including communities of practice
