summary
reporting to the nwscc communications & electronics supervisor, the nwscc radar crew technician is responsible for monitoring the status of and remotely controlling nws site equipment including but not limited to, an/fps-124 radar, an/fps-117 radar, router based ip networks, helicopter monitor and scada systems in a 7x24 shift environment.
what you do- maintain and support north warning system (nws) infrastructure
, including radar systems (an/fps-124, an/fps-117), ip-based networks, helicopter monitoring systems, and scada systems. - monitor and remotely control nws site equipment, ensuring data integrity, signal quality
, and system performance. Diagnose and resolve system faults, adjust configurations, and update equipment parameters. - coordinate with 22 wing system maintenance (sm) for system downtime approvals, verify operational status post-maintenance, and maintain accurate equipment status reports
. - communicate site emergencies, outages, and incidents to relevant stakeholders, including nws operations (nwso) and nasittuq personnel.
- respond to inquiries regarding nws operations and maintenance activities.
- review corrective maintenance requests for priority, feasibility, and resource estimation. Validate work orders upon completion.
- assist with duties related to nwscc communications crew technician responsibilities.
- perform preventive maintenancewscc.
- provide technical guidance and training to personnel on operation, maintenance, and inspection procedures.
- analyze equipment failures, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- support design improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- offer feedback on preventive maintenance programs and participate in installation planning.
- maintain performance and maintenance records for equipment.
- execute duties of an electronics maintenance technician
, including upkeep of site libraries. - conduct environmental, safety, security, and quality audits

education
- completion of a post-secondary program in electronics or canadian forces military equivalent
.
- minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience with radar and communications electronic systems.
- strong understanding of radar systems, ip networks
, and ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals. - proficiency with commercial test equipment for troubleshooting and repair of electronic circuits.
- knowledge of telecommunications, rf systems, and satellite technologies is an asset.
