Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) – Tenure-Track in Social Epidemiology & Health Inequality
Nipissing University invites applications for a Full-time Faculty appointment as a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. The Chair is a tenable, five‑year appointment that can be renewed once upon successful performance. The rank will be Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, depending on experience and the rank at the time of appointment.
Research Area and Candidate Profile- Expertise in social epidemiology, health inequality, and related fields such as public health, population health, or health policy.
- Demonstrated ability to develop an externally funded research program with peer‑reviewed publications and evidence of impact.
- Experience working with Statistics Canada data, spatial analysis, and teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels in an interdisciplinary environment is an asset.
- Strong candidates will be expected to lead research efforts that advance pandemic response, chronic disease epidemiology, social determinants of health, and health inequities, and that inform policies and practices in Northeastern Ontario communities.
- Contribute to teaching and supervision of graduate students in the Master of Arts in Sociology and the Master of Environmental Studies/Master of Environmental Science (MES/MESc) programs.
- Collaborate with faculty across campus to foster interdisciplinary research, attract and train students and postdoctoral scholars, and participate in peer mentorship.
Nipissing University provides access to the Statistics Canada Research Data Centre (RDC) – the only RDC in Northern Ontario – and the Earth Observation Laboratory (NEOL). The RDC offers secure access to confidential microdata across a wide range of government survey topics, while NEOL leverages GIS, remote sensing, and GPS to analyze and visualize health data to track disease outbreaks, assess healthcare accessibility, and monitor environmental health risks.
