Site Protection Officer (SPO) – Marks & Spencer Distribution Centres

Locations: Sheffield, Bradford, Barnsley, Daventry, Northampton

Salary: £28,217

Hours: 4 on 4 off – 12‑hour shifts

Job Overview: Fantastic opportunity to join the Mitie and Marks & Spencer family! We are looking for a professional and adaptable Site Protection Officer (SPO) to provide exceptional security cover across Marks & Spencer Distribution Centres. The role involves maintaining a safe and secure working environment for staff, visitors and contractors, protecting company assets, and ensuring a consistent, high‑quality service. You will work a rotating 4 days on, 4 days off shift pattern with the possibility of overtime shifts.

• Fully and satisfactorily complete all tasks and duties on site as defined within the published Assignment Instructions (AI’s).
• Deliver outstanding customer service in line with Mitie and M&S key values.
• Maintain professional standards of appearance, conduct, and incident reporting.
• Monitor access control systems, CCTV and vehicle movements in accordance with site procedures.
• Conduct regular internal and external patrols to ensure site safety and security.
• Support the prevention and investigation of theft, stock loss and unauthorised access.
• Respond promptly and effectively to incidents, alarms and emergencies following site protocols.
• Assist site management and team to maintain smooth and compliant operations.
• Work flexibly to meet operational requirements, including short‑notice assignments and tasks.
• Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and company security policies.

• IT literate, with strong written and verbal communication skills and great attention to detail.
• Professional appearance and high personal standards.
• Adaptable, reliable and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
• Calm under pressure with a positive, “can‑do” attitude.
• Must hold a valid front‑line SIA Licence.
• Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a reliable vehicle.

• Fully and satisfactorily complete all required competency training.
• Undertake additional training to ensure continuous self‑development as directed by the Security Operations Manager.
• Use technology to achieve key work objectives and develop job knowledge and expertise through continual professional development.
• Ensure licence renewal 16 weeks before expiry.

• Look out for, and immediately report, any Health & Safety hazards, risks or incidents on site.
• Stay alert to any threats or changes within the work environment in order to take the appropriate action to reduce the chance of disruption, loss or damage.
• Maintain professional conduct in the face of any situation or challenging customers.
• Keep to schedules and demonstrate commitment to Mitie and Marks & Spencer.
• Ensure patrols are carried out thoroughly as stipulated in the Assignment Instructions (AI’s).
• Identify and request any training or equipment needs promptly.
