Location: Long Buckby

We are seeking a confident, proactive Practice Nurse to join our very friendly and happy team for maternity cover. Todeliver general practice nursing services to the practice population, includingtreatment, screening and advice within professional competence of the postholder. The postholder will also assist with management of Diabetes, Travel vaccinations and childhood immunisations. The post holder will work in accordance with the UKCC code of conduct and within their own professional competencies.

  • To provide chronic disease management clinics for patient with Diabetes
  • Immunisations
  • Lifestyle advice / health promotion including BP measurement, dietary advice and exercise promotion
  • Assessing requirements of travellers/ offering travel advice
  • Simple wound management
  • Administering other vaccinations
  • Performing cervical cytology
  • Family planning advice.
  • Taking blood samples when necessary
  • Administration of intramuscular or subcutaneous medication
  • Act as a chaperone for GP physical examinations if required
  • Auditing and monitoring of care of long term conditions
  • Record keeping/ clinical Governance responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous record on practice computer system for all patient contacts
  • Participate in maintenance of clinical governance systems and processes across the practice
  • Apply infection control measures within the practice according to guidelines
  • Work within practice guidelines for safeguarding children and adults
  • Monitor work areas and practices to ensure they comply with health and safety legislation
  • Participate in mandatory training cervical cytology/ immunisations/ safeguarding/ infection control/ confidentiality / data protection/ fire safety/ equality and Diversity

Long Buckby Practice serves a patient population of 6700 in a rural location in the heart of Long Buckby.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly, welcoming Practice with patient care at the heart of what we do.

You will be joining a Team of 5 GP Partners, ANP's, Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants as well as a pharmacist, physiotherapist and podiatrist. You will be supported by an efficient and helpful admin team.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Aware of accountability of own role and other roles in a nurse led service
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate difficult messages to patients and families.

  • Experienced primary care skills including management of diabetes
