Accounts Assistant Permanent – based in Northampton, NN4

We are seeking a dependable and detail-focused Accounts Assistant to support the finance function across a growing business. This is a full-time, office-based role, ideal for someone with hands‑on experience in day‑to‑day accounting activities who is comfortable working across multiple entities and managing their own workload.

You will join a supportive finance team and play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring efficient processes, and providing full cover across the department.

Main

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Accurately processing sales and purchase invoices
  • Allocating incoming and outgoing payments and maintaining sales and purchase ledgers
  • Managing credit control activities, including chasing overdue balances
  • Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date debtor records and notes
  • Liaising professionally with customers regarding invoices, contracts, and payment queries
  • Completing bank reconciliations and investigating any discrepancies
  • Assisting with month‑end procedures and general finance tasks as required
  • Supporting the ongoing improvement of finance systems and processes
Person Specification:
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Well organised, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Confident working with numerical and financial data
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team
Experience:
  • Previous experience in an accounts or finance support role
  • Experience using accounting software such as Zoho Books, Sage 50, or similar
  • Proven experience in credit control, including chasing outstanding payments
  • Experience working with multiple companies or legal entities
  • Solid understanding of core accounting processes, including sales and purchase ledgers, bank reconciliations, invoice and bill processing
Hours of Work:
  • Monday – Friday (37.5 hours)
