Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Northampton

Salary: DOE - £30,000 - £60,000
Role OverviewAn opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing building services design team, working across a varied portfolio of projects from concept through to construction and handover. The role suits an engineer who enjoys hands‑on design, technical problem solving, and close collaboration with project and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities- Produce mechanical building services designs from RIBA Stage 2 through to Stage 5
- Design HVAC, heating, ventilation, domestic water and associated mechanical systems
- Prepare calculations, schematics, technical specifications and detailed design drawings
- Work closely with electrical engineers, BIM teams and project managers to ensure coordinated designs
- Support design development with a focus on buildability, cost efficiency and programme
- Attend design team meetings and contribute to technical discussions
- Respond to technical queries from site teams and support projects through construction
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and health and safety requirements
- Assist with value engineering and sustainable design solutions where appropriate
Essential
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
- Experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy or contractor environment
- Strong understanding of HVAC and building services systems
- Ability to produce calculations and detailed design information
- Experience using AutoCAD and Revit
- Good communication skills and ability to work within a team
- Experience working on design and build projects
- Familiarity with BIM Level 2 processes
- Understanding of sustainability, low carbon and energy‑efficient systems
- Working towards Chartered Engineer status
