Overview
Job Overview We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly-motivated individual to join the medical education team in our busy and well-established medical education, simulation and resuscitation centre as a clinical teaching fellow. This post is aimed at doctors wishing to develop their skills and knowledge in the field of medical education. Every effort will be made to tailor the post to the candidate’s clinical and career needs.
In addition, you will receive funding towards a formal qualification in medical education and support for the development of a quality improvement education project.
Main duties of the job The exact job plan will be agreed with the Director of Medical Education and relevant Clinical Director after appointment; however, it currently involves weekly blocks of either Medical Education or Vascular Clinical work, with every Wednesday dedicated to Medical Education.

Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Educational Activity
Education Delivery (50%)
- Facilitating and delivering undergraduate mandatory teaching
- Assisting undergraduate simulation training
- Project management student tutor education programme (STEP) Programme
- Project management of Rolling Teaching Programme
- Delivery of Ward-Craft Programme
- Delivery of Bleep Simulation Programme
- Delivery and/or project management of Foundation programme
- Delivery of simulation-based training across all grades and specialities
- Assorted other educational activities, which may vary according to the needs of the students
Education Innovation (25%)
- Original work on research projects of relevance to medical education
Education Management (25%)
- Working with the wider MDT within Medical Education to effectively plan for student placements
- Student pastoral support
Clinical Activity
The consultant ward rounds provide opportunities for feedback and teaching and the post easily allows completion of the required portfolio assessments. Fortnightly vascular-specific teaching is consultant-led with trainee involvement, with opportunities for junior doctors to present. There are additional weekly general surgical and urology teaching sessions. Monthly Mortality and Morbidity meetings are an excellent opportunity for presentations, clinical notes review and are a good learning environment.

Essential Criteria
Education, Training and Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent
- FULL Registration with the GMC & Licence to practice
Desirable criteria
- MRCS or equivalent
- PG Cert in medical education
Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
- Completion of Foundation Programme Training or equivalent
- Formal teaching experience
- Exposure to simulation training
Desirable criteria
- Previous clinical experience within the NHS environment
- Evidence of exposure to vascular or general surgery
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Fluency in written and spoken English
Desirable criteria
- Experience of research and/or audit
Other
Essential criteria
- Demonstration of ability to formulate plans and set-up a training activity
