Overview

The post duties involve middle grade duties including elective clinics, elective theatres, fracture clinic and trauma operating lists. There is a 1:10 on-call with prospective cover. Friday afternoons are protected training sessions and governance meetings. The post holder will work closely with the consultants and receive one to one informal tuition. All candidates would be expected to show a dedication to Orthopaedics with a validated logbook.

Responsibilities
  • Provide medical cover for any patient admitted under the care of Trauma & Orthopaedics, as directed by the consultant team in charge of care. This duty occurs during all shifts on the roster from on‑call to ward based cover.
  • Accept occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with colleagues both senior and junior.
  • Engage in informal teaching within the department. Facilities for study leave are in line with current guidelines and postgraduate medical education courses are available.
  • Participate in a half‑day meeting once a month, on a Friday afternoon, case presentation, morbidity and mortality meetings and audit presentation. Post holders are actively encouraged to be involved in research projects and publication and will be expected to complete audit projects.
  • Qualifications
    • Dedication to Orthopaedics with a validated logbook.
    • Ability to work closely with consultants and receive one‑to‑one informal tuition.
    • Willingness to perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances as outlined above.
