Urban Youth Collaborative Internship – Department of Developmental Services
Department of Developmental Services (DDS) sponsors the Urban Youth Collaborative program, offering students aged 18‑24 the opportunity to gain experience in human services and support individuals with developmental disabilities in the Central West Region. The program runs from mid‑May through Labor Day Weekend, 90‑day appointments with no vacation days and requires a valid driver’s license.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide both personal care support and facilitate the involvement of individuals in community activities.
- Support and encourage interaction and integration into the community.
- Accompany individuals on frequent outings and trips such as concerts, training camps, aquariums, restaurants, libraries, and local coffee shops.
- Plan, set up, and lead a variety of activities at each individual’s residence, including music and movement, arts & crafts, cooking & baking, and social events such as coffee and ice‑cream get‑togethers.
- Ability to develop and maintain a respectful, caring, tolerant, ethical, and empowering relationship with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Ability to assist and facilitate activities of daily living, such as household maintenance, self‑care and hygiene, food shopping and preparation, budgeting, leisure activities, and social skill development.
- Capability to assist or lift individuals with physical disabilities and/or limited mobility.
- Applicant must be between 18‑24 years old.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have a reliable form of transportation.
Positions are available for either the first or second shift, with specified days off. All State employees are paid bi‑weekly through direct deposit. Current pay rate is $22.98 per hour.
