Position: Boiler Plant Operator Supervisor at US Veterans Health Administration Northampton, MA

Summary

In this position, the Boiler Plant Operator Supervisor must possess the skill, knowledge and experience to supervise, plan, direct, and administer high pressure steam boiler plant operations, CoGen turbine electrical generation, motor vehicle operations and Utility Systems Repair Operators of an operational unit. The position is assigned to the Facilities Management Service (FMS) at the VA Central Western Mass (VACWM) located in Leeds MA.

Duties
  • Planning and scheduling daily, weekly, and monthly work schedules and assignments for employees supervised.
  • Establishing deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules, methods, and procedures of the team.
  • Explaining work requirements, methods, and procedures as needed.
  • Providing on-the-job training of all employees assigned to sections in appropriate trade techniques.
  • Must be familiar with pertinent rules and regulations regarding employees' conduct, safety, fire, care of equipment, etc.
  • Must be familiar with proper safety techniques and procedures so that the regular and safe functioning of the Medical Center is assured.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, storage and safeguard of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies for his/her area of assignment.
  • Responsible for instructing employees in work operations and conducting inspections of work while in progress and completed to assure that all factors are adhered to and all objectives have been met.
  • Makes inspections of the boiler plant, CoGen turbine and utility systems to determine whether adequate preventive maintenance and standards are being maintained.
  • Operating and maintaining boilers, generator, and equipment in accordance with established safety regulations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm

CONDITIONS:

The physical demands of the position will be that normally required of a journeyman tradesperson. Some heavy lifting, movement of ladders, and stamina to perform physical labor are required. Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting, arduous physical effort is required. Working conditions such as ventilation and environment are satisfactory. Employee may be subject to occasional noise, skin irritations, cuts, and bruises.

The work performed requires continuous walking when making inspections in the various buildings.
