This position is part-time and located at Baystate Medical Center, Northampton, MA.
Under the supervision of the Radiologist and according to established policies and procedures, operates imaging equipment to obtain diagnostic images according to Radiologist specifications; assists the Radiologist in procedures as required. Coordinates patient flow, operates systems for routine, specialty, and research studies, supports protocol development, and performs duties related to scanning and image processing for the assigned specialty. Maintains proper patient screening/care protocols and provides accurate documentation to support expedited patient throughput and diagnosis.
May operate ultrasound equipment to produce cross-sectional images for diagnostic purposes where applicable. May float to other Baystate Health locations to support patient care and staffing needs.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service through positive patient experience; promotes positive inter/intradpartmental communications and maintains confidentiality.
- Under supervision of the lead sonographer, operate ultrasound equipment and perform procedures such as abdominal, OB/GYN, trans-vaginal, trans-rectal, scrotal, thyroid, breast, and vascular imaging as appropriate.
- Maintain knowledge of procedures/protocols and apply cross-sectional anatomy to obtain diagnostic information; operate imaging equipment independently to deliver high-quality exams.
- Properly identifies patient information with two identifiers and complies with safety standards; perform routine, specialized, emergency, and urgent imaging procedures; provide accurate, high-quality exams.
- Maintain operational communication with supervisor; work as a member of the healthcare team with physicians, nurses, and other professionals.
- Operate and maintain exam rooms and equipment; perform quality checks; keep areas stocked and clean; dispose of waste appropriately.
- Recognize findings requiring immediate clinical response and notify the radiologist; verify timely image transfer to PACS.
- Ensure compliance with JC, MQSA, ACR regulatory and DPH/CMS requirements; participate in quality assurance and QC activities.
- Perform accurate and high-quality exams with proper technique, positioning, and visualization; instruct patients to optimize results.
- May assist in training technologists, residents, and students; demonstrate willingness to learn new procedures and responsibilities.
- Observe strict safety standards to ensure patient, staff, and visitor safety; maintain a hazard-free environment.
- Manage time effectively to coordinate patients and procedures for maximum productivity.
- Assist radiologist in a range of sterile procedures as dictated by modality.
- RDMS Registry in at least one specialty is required.
- Completion of an accredited program and registration in at least one registry.
- Must be registered in a minimum of one specialty through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
Outpatient or hospital experience preferred.
Skills and Competencies- Ability to work with computer applications and documentation systems.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.

High School Diploma (Required)
Certifications:
Basic Life Support – American Heart Association;
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – ARDMS
