Overview
The Department of Economics at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position in industrial organization and/or health economics at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2026. We are particularly interested in candidates with interests that span the two fields. Successful candidates should have an active research program and be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Responsibilities- Teach and advise undergraduate students; teaching responsibilities will regularly include electives or seminar courses connected to the candidate’s specialty, one or more core courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, or econometrics, and opportunities for student research.
- Maintain an active research program leading to publications in field-relevant outlets.
- Contribute to the department and college mission through service activities as appropriate.
- Ph.D. in Economics or a relevant field expected by the time of appointment.
- Ability and commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.
- Interest in industrial organization and/or health economics, with a record or potential to contribute across both fields.
- Candidates from groups underrepresented in Economics are encouraged to apply.
Salary is typically between $102,000 and $107,000 for newly-hired assistant professors with a terminal degree in Economics beginning the first year of the tenure clock in Fall 2026. Salary decisions depend on factors including teaching and work experience, market, disciplinary, and internal peer equity factors. Smith College offers a competitive benefits package.
