Sechelt Hospital is a 46‑bed acute care facility that serves over 30,000 residents of the Lower Sunshine Coast. It offers emergency care, dialysis, mental health and substance use services, surgical services, low‑risk birthing, and imaging services.

About Sechelt, BC

The District Municipality of Sechelt is located on the lower Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, about 50 km northwest of Vancouver. Responsibilities
  • Provide emergency nursing care to clients/patients of all ages presenting with a wide variety of symptoms in an uncontrolled environment and care to critically ill patients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life‑support equipment, and/or clients in post‑anaesthetic recovery.
  • As a member of the emergency response team, stabilize and resuscitate multi‑trauma victims and prepare for and respond to disaster situations.
  • Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.
  • Consult, confer, and collaborate with other health care givers.
  • Demonstrate expertise and leadership in nursing practice.
  • Maintain and advance clinical competence.
  • Participate on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) is required.
  • Completion of a recognized critical care nursing program or an advanced program in emergency care nursing, or two (2) years of recent, related experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centered care model.
  • Broad knowledge of BCCNM’s standards for nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to designated client group.
  • Ability to plan and implement plans of care in relation to client/family priorities.
  • Interviewing and assessment skills.
  • Assessment of client responses to care and appropriate response.
  • Adaptability to new or unexpected events.
  • Trauma management in an emergency setting.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Team collaboration as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Oral and written communication.
  • Effective communication with clients, families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and outside agencies.
  • Counseling and teaching of clients and families based on their priorities.
  • Leadership and work direction.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties.
  • Skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.
  • CPR techniques.
  • Critical care nursing techniques.
  • Basic computer literacy for patient care information systems.
  • Operating related equipment.

Hours of work, including days off and work area, may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the Collective Agreement.

All health care workers in publicly‑funded facilities are required to report past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. This information will be requested during onboarding.
