Event Manager / Planner

The West Vancouver Community Services Department is seeking casual Skate Leaders to provide leadership, safety and instruction at the Ice Arena. The Skate Leader is responsible for the skating programs and activities, including general program readiness including equipment lists, lesson plans, games and activities for a range of skill levels and age groups. This position will be involved in program development, as well as planning and delivery of skating lessons and activities for a variety of skill levels and all age groups.
The Skate Leader will be directly involved with staff in a leadership role, staff training, coaching, motivation and general supervision.
The preferred applicant will have thorough knowledge of ice skating and skill assessment; considerable knowledge of safe skating practices and the rules of conduct of the arena; an ability to assist with program planning, development and implementation; an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, employees and the public; an ability to assign, check, train, supervise and evaluate subordinate staff;
a proven ability to deal effectively and courteously with staff, public and user groups.
Desirable qualifications will include completion of a two-year program in Recreation at a recognized Community College and completion of National Coaching Certification Program, significant skating and instructing experience and awareness of arena operations, plus supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Applicants must have a Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED Certificate issued by a recognized Canadian body. Successful candidates will be required to supply an acceptable Police Information Check and a copy of their credentials.
