Job Description & How to Apply Below
Our client is a dynamic, mid-sized public practice accounting firm with a team of 25 professionals providing assurance, tax, and advisory services to a diverse client base across Canada.
We are looking for a Resource Manager to help our client optimize people, processes, and performance. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys the variety and challenge of public practice but is looking for a role with more balance than traditional client-facing work.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with Partners, Managers, and HR to anticipate engagement timelines and resource needs.
- Allocate professional staff to engagements based on skills, experience, and availability, ensuring fair workload distribution and alignment with development goals.
- Act as a trusted contact for staff with workload or scheduling concerns, helping resolve conflicts and adjust plans as client needs evolve.
- Monitor engagement metrics such as utilization, capacity, and billable hours, and prepare regular reporting for leadership.
- Support onboarding and technical training for new hires, and assist staff in meeting professional development requirements (including CPA PD hours).
- Oversee engagement readiness by ensuring client file completeness before work begins and flagging any gaps or missing information.
- Provide general technical support and facilitate communication with Managers and Partners to effectively resolve engagement issues, ensuring engagements are completed within firm targets.
- Recommend improvements to scheduling processes and tools, identify staffing constraints, and support the implementation of resource planning systems as the firm grows.
You’ll work closely with all levels of the firm — from Partners and Managers to professional staff and administrative support. This role is highly collaborative, people-focused, and central to helping our teams deliver exceptional client service.
Requirements- 3–7 years of experience in a public practice or professional services environment.
- A strong understanding of the structure and seasonal workflows of a CPA firm.
- Familiarity with practice management and technical software (Case Ware, Tax Prep, QBO, or similar).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills — with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Familiarity with CPA student development and reporting requirements.
- Experience in resource planning or scheduling within a professional services firm.
- A CPA designation or coursework (an asset, but not required).
- A collaborative, supportive work environment with a strong sense of community.
- Flexibility — including consideration of alternate schedules (e.g., 9–3 days, or a 4-day week).
- Competitive compensation and benefits.
- Opportunities to grow as the firm evolves.
- A role that combines the challenge of public practice with improved work-life balance.
- A collaborative, supportive work environment with a strong sense of community.
- Flexibility to support work-life balance.
