Financial Analyst I – Operations Finance
Reporting to the Finance Manager of Operations for Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards, the Financial Analyst I plays a foundational role within the finance department, assisting with various financial activities and analysis. You will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting financial data to provide insights and recommendations to management for informed decision‑making. This entry‑level position offers an opportunity to gain valuable experience in financial analysis and to contribute to the success of the organization.
The role will interact regularly with senior finance professionals and management across engineering and other groups.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including labour reports and finance statements.
- Participate in the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasts for operational overhead and chargeable project hours.
- Run weekly labour reports, providing analytical commentary.
- Conduct variance analysis to identify key drivers of financial performance and assess budgetary compliance.
- Develop financial models to evaluate business scenarios and support strategic initiatives.
- Research cost variances against monthly spend, budget, and forecasts.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather relevant data and ensure alignment with financial objectives.
- Assist in the development and reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Perform additional ad‑hoc analyses and other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or Finance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail‑oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting and financial analysis experience.
The estimated hourly rate for this position is $30.73. In determining the hourly rate, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
