Arts Instructor – Visual Art

North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is dedicated to building healthy individuals, families, and communities. We offer a wide range of recreation and cultural programs and services to residents of all ages and abilities. You will be an integral part of our dedicated staff team who continually strive to make a difference in the recreation and cultural lives of North Vancouver residents. We are currently looking for Visual Arts Instructors to lead programs for adults and children in a variety of art mediums.

If you have experience teaching and practicing any of the following: weaving, textiles, drawing, watercolour or acrylic painting, photography or mixed media or you would like to propose another art medium for children, youth or adults, please connect with us through this application process. You will be delivering excellent customer experiences by working closely and cooperatively with parents, caregivers and children 2-5 years (Early Years). You will engage in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities. You will be ensuring children are safe and engaged while promoting a positive, healthy environment.

You are a team player committed to community. You will plan and instruct art classes for adults and children. You will be working in a creative environment utilizing your leadership and people skills, developmentally plan appropriate activities while maintaining a safe environment to engage students to expand their interest in art. You are an excellent communicator with a positive, energetic and enthusiastic attitude.

• In-depth knowledge of techniques and processes in your art medium
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong organizational and supervisory skills
• Proven ability to create and implement lesson plans
• Ability to build a rapport with students, parents of students, and staff
• Ability to be flexible in a dynamic environment

Candidates must have a degree or diploma in Visual Arts or 2 years of Visual Arts education and related experience. Some previous teaching experience will be considered an asset.

All instructors working with children must have a current Standard First Aid certificate and HIGH FIVE:
Principles of Healthy Child Development training (available online through BCRPA).

All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.

Hours may vary and instructors should be prepared to work days, evenings and/or weekends at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location. Shifts include additional preparation and clean up time.

The pay for this casual position ranges between $23.45-$25.58 per hour, based on education and experience, plus 4% vacation pay.
