Ophthalmologist – Lions Gate Hospital

Two General Ophthalmologists (0.5 FTE) at Lions Gate Hospital, Vancouver Coastal Health. Status:
Permanent Part-Time.

The Division of Ophthalmology at Lions Gate Hospital is seeking two General Ophthalmologists based at the hospital within the VCH region. The Division comprises five surgeons and offers admitting and operating privileges. The role includes participation in the ophthalmology on‑call rota, pre‑operative and post‑operative assessment of cataract patients, cataract surgery, and diagnosis and management of ophthalmic emergencies.

• Participate in the ophthalmology on‑call rota.
• Perform pre‑operative and post‑operative assessment of cataract patients.
• Perform cataract surgery in a day‑surgery environment.
• Diagnose and manage ophthalmic emergencies.
• Maintain 1/7 call requirement for a 0.5 FTE position.

• Completed an accredited Ophthalmology residency program.
• Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
• Fellowship training or equivalent clinical experience (considered an asset).
• Strong commitment to patient‑centred care, quality improvement and collaborative practice within a multidisciplinary team.

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) – Desired
• Canadian College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) – Full
• Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) – Mandatory
• Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) – Mandatory
• Surgical Skills – Mandatory

Lions Gate Hospital is a Level 3 trauma centre serving more than 270,000 residents and is undergoing expansion with the development of a new Medical and Surgical Centre. It is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of British Columbia.
