Job Description

Full Time Days

The ER Tech is responsible for all basic patient care duties, including therapeutic treatment as ordered by the physician on duty, operation of laboratory equipment, patient discharge, and education.

Responsibilities
  • Triage all patients upon arrival to determine their location of treatment (Emergency room versus urgent care).
  • Provide general patient care, including therapeutic and diagnostic intervention.
  • Provide age- and education-specific education to all patients.
  • Maintain a clean work environment; duties may include responsibilities typically associated with housekeeping (emptying trash, mopping floors, cleaning counters).
  • Follow all company policies and HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Encourage a friendly, respectful work environment.
  • Provide patients and their families with a customer-focused, friendly, reassuring environment that encourages participation in health care decisions.
  • Accurately interpret a physician’s instructions.
  • Assist the physician on duty with the treatment of patients; communicate patient needs, client feedback, and observations to the physician and operations coordinator.
  • Administer medications and collect specimens to conduct laboratory tests; review and uphold lab policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with health team members to ensure patient well-being and support team efforts.
  • Execute physician orders, including administration of medications, treatments, and IVs according to policy and procedure.
  • Observe and document the patient’s response to medications.
  • Prepare specimens and operate lab equipment; maintain CEUs; complete yearly assigned education on time.
  • Maintain professional certifications and licenses; participate in facility certifications.
  • Attend a minimum of four staff meetings and read and sign all minutes of meetings not attended.
  • Provide patient education and discharge instructions; follow infection control and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Accept the physical demands of the role, including potential exposure to healthcare environmental conditions.
  • Accept rotating shifts, standby, or on-call as scheduled.
Qualifications
  • Time management; use of medical terminology; performance of diagnostic procedures; quality focus; technical understanding; dependability; analyzing information; effective patient communications.
  • High school diploma or GED; ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and HIPAA regulations; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • Basic math skills; ability to follow written or oral instructions; ability to solve problems with a few concrete variables.
  • MA, CNA, CMA, LVN, NCT, EMT-P, EMT-B certification or diploma; current BLS & ACLS certification; completion of company-provided laboratory testing education and competency.
