Licensed Practical Nurse - OLF_

Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse works under the direction of a Registered Nurse (charge nurse) to provide nursing care to patients. Duties include taking vital signs, assisting with procedures and examinations, administering non‑emergent medication, assisting patients with activities of daily living, and instructing patients and families in appropriate care.

Collaborates with the professional registered nurse to assess patient response to treatment, provides input into nursing care plans, and reinforces teaching done by the registered nurse. Care is delivered in compliance with hospital policies, procedures, legal and regulatory standards. The LPN prioritizes work, recognizes abnormalities through patient observation, and reports them to the RN. Consistent demonstration of competencies, active contribution to quality improvement, and personal growth through continuous learning are required.

Licensure: Current RI LPN licensure, required.

Experience: None.

• Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, implements appropriate components of the nursing process.
• Ability to calculate medication dosage.
• Knowledge of aseptic principles and technical skills to perform nursing procedures.
• Skills in organization and priority setting.
• Maintains confidentiality of information (HIPAA).
• Demonstrated customer service skills.
• Ability to respond to customer service needs considering cultural background, linguistic skills and age of customers.
• Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with peers and interdisciplinary teams.

Visual acuity and hand dexterity required. Physical ability includes stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, walking, twisting, stretching, and reaching. Ability to push, pull, and lift more than 30 lbs.
