OPS MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Your Specific Responsibilities
  • Routine Clinical Health
    • Direct Patient Care
    • Prepares client for clinic visit; measures height, weight, temperature, medical history, and enters information into the client’s chart.
    • Assists physicians with patient care, treatments, and procedures; sets up trays and instruments for procedures, passes instruments.
    • Performs in-house laboratory testing as needed, including venipunctures, urinalysis, hemoglobin, and pregnancy tests; collects and prepares specimens for in-house or outside laboratory analysis and assists in labeling and processing specimens obtained by providers.
    • Assists with client routing in the clinic area; maintains optimum clinic flow by preparing exam rooms and directing clients to stations; identifies problems and seeks solutions with clinic staff.
    • Bilingual client support: provide essential Spanish translation services to assist clients with limited English proficiency.
  • Supportive Duties
    • Prepares inventories and helps with ordering supplies and LARC devices following the FDOH guidelines; processes reconciliation of received orders for accuracy and accountability.
    • Maintains inventory of medical supplies; checks supply in lab, work-up area, and exam rooms daily; maintains a clean and safe work environment by routine checks of equipment and cleaning.
    • Cleans, sterilizes, and stores equipment/instruments after procedures.
    • Monitors patient education material supplies and replenishes as needed before and during clinic sessions.
    • Anticipates and communicates deficiencies with supervisor.
    • Prepares and submits reports needed for state program requirements.
  • Care Coordination
    • Assists providers in the care and follow-up of clients with abnormal Pap tests and receiving colposcopy procedures to maintain treatment adherence and referrals.
    • Ensures clients are informed about abnormal results.
    • Coordinates repeat Pap tests as ordered by Providers.
    • Schedules clients for colposcopy procedures; prepares colposcopy room with supplies and required forms; assists provider with colposcopy procedures; prepares and submits specimens to the lab.
    • Coordinates referrals to internal departments and/or community agencies to ensure clients receive needed services; follows up to ensure referrals are completed.
    • Updates Care Coordination Plan in HMS as needed; sends reminders and follow-up letters when clients are non-compliant.
  • Routine Clerical Support
    • Admissions
    • Monitors the admission process for adequate staffing and flow; ensures proper documentation is obtained from the patient; ensures forms and labeling are completed and sent into clinic.
  • Appointments
    • Uses the Health Management System (HMS) to schedule time slots for patients.
    • Verifies demographic and insurance information before securing appointment slots.
  • Other Duties
    • Submits timesheets in Peoples’ First timely each pay period.
    • Enters Employee Activity Record System (EARS) data into the HMS system within seven days.
    • Reads and uses email daily to ensure proper communication with supervisor and co-workers on work-related issues.
    • Participates in unit Quality Improvement initiatives to ensure quality assurance of primary care services.
    • Attends and participates in unit, division, and agency staff meetings.

    Qualifications

    Minimum

    • High school diploma or GED
    • One to three years of experience as a medical assistant
    • One to three years of phlebotomy experience
    • English / Spanish bilingual (written and oral)

    Preferred

    • Certification as a medical assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants, The American Medical Technologists, or the National Center for Competency Testing
    • One or more years of experience conducting patient intakes
