Overview
This is a seasonal position working with school age children (ages 5 thru 14) in a day camp program. A camp counselor will serve as a role model, demonstrating dependability, enthusiasm and creativity.
Responsibilities- Oversees a group of children in day camp setting and on field trips.
- Organizes, instructs and leads children in games, crafts, sports and other recreational activities in a safe manner.
- Works as a team member with other camp counselors.
- Enforces rules with patience and tact.
- Performs cleaning, such as sweeping, mopping, setting up and cleaning up of play areas.
These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. Employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned, including City-directed work assignments in the event of a declared emergency.
- Ability to supervise and monitor childrens activities.
- Knowledge in a variety of games and rules.
- Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety requirements of various athletic and recreational activities.
- Ability to coordinate and lead recreational programs and events.
- Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines and policies.
- Ability to work varied hours.
- Ability to think clearly in emergency situations when necessary.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with campers, parents, other employees and the general public.
Graduation from an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year experience in education, recreational programming, youth programs, child care or related field.
These qualifications may be substituted with a comparable amount of training, education or experience.
Licenses and CertificationsPossession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver s license by date of hire. Prefer certification in CPR and/or first aid.
Emergency Response ResponsibilityEvery City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee s official job description.
Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
Please note, the hiring pay range for this position is the minimum up to a rate equal to or less than the midpoint of the salary range.
