Overview
This is a seasonal position interacting with school age children (ages 5 thru 14) and Summer Camp Counselors in a day camp program. A Head Camp Counselor will serve as a role model, demonstrating dependability, enthusiasm and creativity and providing direction to Summer Camp Counselors in their daily duties.
Responsibilities- Lead Summer Camp Counselors and participants in day camp setting and on field trips.
- Assist Summer Camp Counselors in planning and implementing activities and projects.
- Assist Summer Camp Counselors with timely resolution of participant conflicts and provide behavior management techniques.
- Promote and encourage camper participation in daily activities.
- Enforce policies, rules and safety regulations.
- Provide observations and feedback for Summer Camp Counselor evaluations.
- Monitor camp inventory and perform general housekeeping duties.
- Ability to supervise and monitor group activities and field trips.
- Ability to work as a team leader.
- Ability to communicate effectively and provide necessary instruction to participants and Summer Camp Counselors.
- Knowledge in a variety of games, crafts and traditional camp activities.
- Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety requirements of various athletic and recreational activities.
- Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines and policies.
- Ability to think clearly in emergency situations when necessary.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, parents, other employees and the general public.
Associate s Degree in Recreation, Education or related field plus minimum three (3) years of relevant work experience in recreation or education.
A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.
Licenses and CertificationsPossession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver s license by date of hire.
Prefer certification in CPR and/or first aid.
Emergency Response ResponsibilityEvery City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee s official job description.
Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
