Mixed Critical Care (ICU / PCU / Med Surg) - Total Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, Med Surg 1:5
- NOTE:
There may be shifts with no true ICU patients — nurses must be comfortable taking PCU or Med Surg assignments. - Patient Population & Common Diagnoses:
- Heavy Cath Lab cases:
Coronary angiograms & stenting, Peripheral angiograms & stenting - Sepsis
- Neurosurgery patients
- Drug & alcohol withdrawal
- COPD
- CHF
- ICU Acuity:
Occasional IABP, Impella, and occasional pediatric patients (assigned to core staff)
- Heavy Cath Lab cases:
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIHSS
- First‑time travelers accepted
- ICU background preferred
- If no ICU, must have strong PCU experience
- Must be comfortable titrating drips and managing ICU, PCU (1:4), and Med Surg (1:5) assignments
- Drip Experience Required (Titration Required – YES)
- ICU Drips:
All common critical care drips - PCU Drips:
Cardizem, Insulin, Pressors / Inotropes, Heparin, Lasix, Bumex
- Charge Nurse: 1 per shift (takes patients only if necessary) – responds to all codes/rapids
- House Supervisor:
Handles bed placement/control - Hospitalist:
In‑house 24/7;
Some PCPs follow patients;
No intensivist - Support Staff:
- Techs/Aides (1:8–16)
- Respiratory Therapy in ICU 24/7 – Equipment:
Vents, CPAP, BiPAP, Heated High Flow (Opti Flow) - Telemetry – Tele tech located in ICU;
Monitors on 3rd and 4th floors; some ER patients; RNs must interpret strips during assessments;
Telemetry system:
Phillips
12‑hour shifts: 5:45 AM – 6:00 PM; 5:45 PM – 6:00 AM.
Core staff scheduled first, agency fills gaps. Schedule posted in 6‑week blocks (2 weeks in advance).
Weekend Requirement:
At least every other weekend (often most weekends).
Holiday Requirement:
As needed (travelers typically included).
Call Requirement:
None.
Floating:
No floating outside of this mixed unit.
Royal Blue.
OrientationWeek 1:
Hospital orientation (M–F); EPIC training;
Basic skills;
Manager expectations;
Unit‑specific: 2 shifts.
Radius Rule:
Cannot reside in North Platte.
