Pay RangeBase pay range: $15.00/hr - $18.00/hr this range is provided by Community Veterinary Partners; your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
Role OverviewThe Veterinary Technician Assistant supports the Veterinary Technician and helps ensure efficient patient care. In a dual‑role capacity, the candidate will also serve as kennel staff, caring for hospitalized or boarded animals and maintaining a clean environment.
Technician Assistant Duties- Provides compassionate care to patients and clients, conducting oneself professionally under stress.
- Maintains accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy.
- Prepares and maintains exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Performs physical assessments; records observations legibly in files or veterinary software.
- Effectively restrains pets, including large or difficult animals.
- Knows common vaccines and vaccination protocols and can explain them to clients.
- Maintains a clean and orderly facility as part of normal job duties.
- Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.
- Prepares estimates for procedures and discusses financial commitments with clients, supporting hospital financial policies.
- Explains essential follow‑up and home‑care instructions to clients.
- Cares for all surgical materials and equipment; keeps the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery.
- Sets up for clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, ear cytology, and fungal cultures; maintains a file of lab test results and ensures they are recorded in patient records.
- Effectively positions and takes radiographs of patients Analysts.
- Understands the use and care of IV pumps.
- Admits patients following hospital policy and doctor's written orders.
- Discharges patients based on the veterinarian’s orders, ensuring they are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including assistance in other areas.
- Provides compassionate care to patients.
- Receives animals to be admitted, identifies them, and records their locations.
- Releases animals to owners as directed, ensuring each is clean and properly groomed.
- Follows a regular schedule for cleaning and sanitizing cages, runs, wards, and related areas; changes litter boxes as needed.
- Feeds each animal as prescribed by the attending doctor and records appetite.
- Bathes and grooms animals as directed by the doctor.
- Collects urine and fecal specimens as directed by the doctor.
- Recognizes and records any unusual condition or abnormal behavior.
- Assists doctors, nurses, technicians with medication administration or restraint.
- Maintains cleanliness in kitchen and other relevant areas of the hospital as directed by the Practice Manager.
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary.
This dual‑role position requires willingness to work weekends and some holidays. The hospital is AAHA accredited; adherence to all policies and procedures is essential.
