Description
PRIMARYPURPOSE:
The Infusion Nurse will be responsible for administering medications, including intravenous (IV) infusions, hydration, and injections, and providing comprehensive patient care during the infusion process. This role involves close collaboration with Providers and a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe and efficient infusion therapy and to promote person-centered care. Additionally, the Infusion Nurse will assist with other clinical functions as directed by the Director of Nursing to ensure the seamless delivery of patient care and operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Prepare, initiate, administer, monitor, and discontinue infusion therapies, including IV medications and hydration per physician orders.
- Assess and monitor patients before, during, and after infusions to ensure safety and efficacy.
- Insert, maintain, and remove peripheral IV access. Maintain central venous access devices.
- Administer injections and manage infusion-related adverse reactions and complications promptly and effectively.
- Collect and prepare lab specimens in accordance with the policy and procedures in the Clinical Laboratory Manual.
- Respond to all medical emergencies in the infusion suite with the assistance of the code team.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to improve the quality of services and to resolve identified problems.
- Educate patients and their families on infusion therapy, possible side effects, and post-treatment care.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all administered treatments, patient interactions, and observations.
- Document and report any adverse events or reactions in compliance with regulatory and organizational policies.
- Follow strict infection control protocols and ensure all equipment is properly sanitized and maintained.
- Responsible for maintaining and tracking inventory of the infusion suite.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and staff-training education programs to stay current with best practices and standards in infusion therapy.
- Work closely with clinical team members to ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to and that quality care is delivered.
- Assist with quality assurance initiatives.
- Perform other nursing tasks as directed by the Director of Nursing, such as wound care, patient triage, medication and vaccine reconciliation, or supporting other clinical departments during peak times.
Requirements
REQUIREDKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong time-management skills, and the ability to prioritize responsibilities.
- Strong IV placement skills.
- Ability to assess patient reactions quickly and respond effectively.
- Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented in training programs and/or professional literature.
- Ability to develop solutions and articulate ideas and knowledge, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in oral, written, and electronic communications.
- PC proficiency, including documentation in EHR software.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information.
- Ability to interact and work with diverse populations.
- Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, Providers, or others professionally.
- Ability to endure short, intermittent, and/or long periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., facemask, goggles, latex/non-latex gloves) as needed.
- Ability to work in a patient-care setting with possible exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, and ability to utilize standard precautions to prevent transmission of diseases.
- Full range of body motion required. Position requires reaching, bending, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 25 pounds or less over periods of 100 yards.
- Accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, e.g. pens, pencils, calculators, computer keyboard, telephone, etc.
- Ability to travel to other Found Care locations and perform job duties.
- Ability to travel to other locations to attend meetings, workshops, and seminars, plus travel to other Found Care departments and Found Care conference rooms.
- Licensure: Current and valid RN license in the state of Florida.
- Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least one (1) year in an infusion setting.
- Certifications: IV Therapy or Infusion Nursing Certification is preferred (e.g., CRNI). BLS/CPR certification required.
- Proficiency in EHR systems and basic computer applications.
