GENERAL SUMMARYResponsible for the overall on-site operation of the Dollar General dedicated fleet. Manages the on-site fleet team. Accountable for all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including on-time store deliveries, tractor utilization, reverse logistics (backhaul and rolltainer management), and related activities. Responsible for developing and managing the annual private fleet budget and accountable for the P&L.
DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Manages dedicated operations and leads fleet team members to deliver on-time freight pickup and delivery, driver tractor utilization, safety compliance, and reverse logistics management. Uses the driver management tool to dispatch, track, and report results. 50%.
- Partners with the Sr Transportation Manager to develop and execute a strategic plan to support P&L, expense management, and driver growth. Aligns with Private Fleet Performance Indicators while adhering to applicable regulations.
- Accountable for driver training, driver payroll, time-at-home, driver retention, idle reduction, MPG improvement, dispatch and load optimization, equipment usage, and effective use of the driver management system.
- Champion driver retention by building and maintaining driver relationships, addressing home time, payroll, equipment issues, logging violations, and related needs.
- Provides ad-hoc reporting, analysis, and project participation for the Outbound Operations team, including development of scorecards and implementation of new ideas and processes.
- Manages operations and leads fleet team members to deliver results including on-time freight pickup and delivery, driver tractor utilization, safety compliance, and reverse logistics management. Uses the driver management tool to dispatch, track, and report results. 50%.
- Proven leadership and knowledge of the transportation industry, FMCSA Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) program, and DOT regulations.
- Experience managing dedicated fleet operations and OTR drivers.
- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, and innovative thinking.
- Excellent attention to detail, planning, and organization skills.
- Proficient in transportation optimization software for routing, tendering, scheduling, and shipment tracking, as well as MS Office software.
- Ability to function in a high-stress environment.
- 10% travel required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Logistics preferred.
- Transportation experience managing at least 50 drivers preferred.
