Job Overview
Senior Fire Protection Engineer at Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS), a consortium of Honeywell International Inc., Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., and HII Nuclear Inc. MSTS manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The role supports high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through design, engineering, and oversight of fire protection systems at the NNSS.
Responsibilities- Lead and support design projects through all lifecycle phases, including initiation, planning, design, execution, and closeout.
- Develop detailed design packages—drawings, specifications, calculations, reports—to support equipment procurement and construction of fire protection systems, including fire alarm, detection, suppression, and life safety systems.
- Perform comprehensive fire hazard analyses, fire modeling, and assessment of existing and new facilities to determine design requirements, deficiencies, and compliance with applicable codes and DOE orders.
- Provide expertise in fire modeling using Pyro Sim, CFAST, and Fire Dynamics Simulator; perform hydraulic calculations with Hydraulic Analyzer of Sprinkler Systems.
- Mentor less-experienced engineers and advise on implementation of organizational goals.
- Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, Authority Having Jurisdiction, fire marshal, and facility manager to ensure compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical engineering accredited by ABET or a calculus-based STEM engineering degree; or Professional Engineer license.
- Minimum five years of relevant experience, including at least three years in fire hazards analysis and fire protection assessments for nuclear facilities; and at least three years performing fire model analysis.
- Experience with underground facilities or nuclear facilities highly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and U.S. citizenship, 18+ years for DOE Q-level security clearance.

Security RequirementsMSTS requires a pre-employment drug test and background review, including personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Successful applicants must obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship and a counterintelligence evaluation that may include a polygraph examination.
