Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities – Principal Electrical Engineer – Pulsed Power

• Work alongside scientists and engineers to install, troubleshoot, and test cutting‑edge technologies at North Las Vegas and the Nevada National Security Site.
• Develop accurate circuit models for state‑of‑the‑art accelerator systems.
• Write subscripts in various programming languages to aid analysis and manipulate data.
• Collaborate with subject‑matter experts to ensure predictive capabilities and measurement techniques exist for high‑fidelity computer models.
• Stay current on advances in Pulsed Power Engineering theory, techniques, and capabilities.
• Document results in institutional reports and peer‑reviewed journals; present findings at meetings, workshops, and conferences.
• Mentor summer interns and less experienced staff.
• Participate in planning and reporting activities.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.
• Be willing to travel as needed.

Responsibilities – Senior Principal Electrical Engineer – Pulsed Power

• Devise integrated solutions to complex technical problems across technical and business domains; lead major projects and startups; initiate external collaborations.
• Coordinate design engineers and national labs on interface and requirement development; ensure compliance with laws, codes, policies, and procedures.
• Encourage intellectual property creation and publication; mentor staff in best practices; participate in business development by defining customer needs, drafting proposals, and planning projects.
• Work with customers to clarify needs and deliver on objectives; apply ingenuity to implement pioneering solutions in unexplored areas.

Qualifications – Principal Electrical Engineer – Pulsed Power

• Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering program (ABET) or a calculus‑based STEM bachelor’s in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 9 years of relevant experience; skill building evidence of deeper technical specialization or cross‑disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience recognized.
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred.

Qualifications – Senior Principal Electrical Engineer – Pulsed Power

• Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering program (ABET) or a calculus‑based STEM bachelor’s in engineering, or Professional Engineer license.
• Minimum 14 years of relevant experience; skill building evidence of deeper technical specialization or cross‑disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience recognized.
• Recognized as an authoritative source of information.

Desired Skills

• Experience with solid‑state pulsed power technology.
• Experience with linear induction accelerators.
• Experience in the field of pulsed power (gas discharge physics, flash radiography, high‑power microwaves, power electronics, Marx generators, PFNs, PFLs).
• Hands‑on experience with high‑voltage systems (multiple kV to MV).
• Experience using puls​ed‑power diagnostics: RVM, CVR, capacitive dividers, D‑dot and B‑dot probes, current transformers.
• Experience with vacuum discharge physics (plasma generation, secondary emission, high‑voltage breakdown, surface flashover).
• Programming experience with Python, C++, Fortran to manipulate and analyze data.
• Work schedule:
  
  4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
• Pre‑placement physical examination and drug screen required; MSTS adheres to a substance abuse policy with random testing.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Department of Energy Q Clearance

Position requires DOE Q‑level security clearance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, and able to obtain and maintain clearance. Background review, drug testing, and counter‑intelligence evaluation may be required.
