Senior Engineer – Instrument & Control
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is a limited liability company jointly owned by Honeywell International Inc., Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., and HII Nuclear Inc. MSTS manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). JobPurpose
We are seeking a self‑motivated Senior Engineer to serve as the Instrument & Control (I&C) Engineer. In this role you will plan, specify, schedule, design, implement, and commission facility and infrastructure design changes at the NNSS. You will evaluate existing conditions and devise upgrade designs for highly regulated nuclear facilities, including communication, power, voice‑over‑IP, data network, public‑address, security, and building‑automation systems.
Key Responsibilities- Validate and verify software for customer systems using IEEE‑1012 Verification & Validation of Software Requirements.
- Design and implement safety‑significant systems in compliance with DOE‑STD‑1195 for non‑reactor nuclear facilities.
- Develop network diagrams, control schematics, and test plans for cable and conduit installation.
- Lead technical oversight of subcontractor designs and coordinate with the MSTS IT department.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and external partners on major projects, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Act as an advisor to management on critical technical issues and support business‑development activities.
- Apply innovative solutions to emerging technical challenges.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or other ABET‑accredited engineering program (or a calculus‑based STEM bachelor’s degree). A Professional Engineer license is also acceptable.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in cable and conduit installation, field engineering, control‑system installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Knowledge of DOE or NRC regulated design standards, safety‑significant instrumentation, and control‑system component specification.
- Experience with SCADA/DCS, PLC, RTU, web relays, IoT devices, and familiarity with Ignition software is a plus.
- Strong communication skills for conveying technical issues to non‑technical audiences.
- Prior DOE complex‑work or nuclear‑facility experience preferred; project‑management experience and PMP certification are desirable.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a pre‑employment drug test and background review. DOE Q‑level security clearance is required.
Primary work location:
Losee Road facility, North Las Vegas, Nevada. Work at the NNSS (65 miles northwest of Las Vegas) may be required. The schedule is a 4/10 pattern, Monday‑Thursday, subject to change.
Base pay range: $99,340.80 – $ / yr (annualized). MSTS offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, pension, 401(k), paid time off, relocation assistance (if >75 mi), and tuition reimbursement.
